photographer
Bruce Landon Davidson is an American photographer known for his documentary work and membership in the Magnum Photos agency since 1958. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, to a Jewish family of Polish origin, he began photography as a child. He studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Yale University, where he was influenced by figures like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank. Davidson is celebrated for his ability to photograph communities often hostile to outsiders, notably his extensive documentation of Harlem in the 1960s and early 1970s (East 100th Street). His work has been widely exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He received numerous accolades, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts grants, and the Lucie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Photography.[1,2]
