Carol M. Armstrong

Carol M. Armstrong is an American art historian, art critic, and professor. She is currently the Doris Stevens Professor of Women's Studies in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University and has been a member of the faculty of the Department of the History of Art at Yale University since 2007. Armstrong received her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1986. Her scholarship focuses on 19th-century French painting, the history of photography, art criticism, and feminist theory, with a specific emphasis on the representation of women and gender in art and visual culture. She has written extensively on figures such as Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, and Paul Cézanne. She is a frequent contributor to publications like October and Artforum magazines and has curated numerous exhibitions at institutions including the Yale Center for British Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum.[1]
