Chris Killip

Christopher David Killip (1946–2020) was a renowned Manx photographer known for his evocative black and white images of people and places in the United Kingdom. He began his career as an assistant to advertising photographer Adrian Flowers in London before going freelance in 1969. In 1975, he received a fellowship from Northern Arts to photograph the northeast of England, leading to his seminal work 'In Flagrante' (1988), which documented the industrial decline and working-class communities of Tyneside during the 1970s and 1980s. Killip was a professor of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University from 1991 to 2017.
