Chris Shaw

photographer

Chris Shaw is an English documentary photographer known for his evocative black-and-white and color imagery. He studied photography at West Surrey College of Art & Design (now University for the Creative Arts) from 1986 to 1989. His work often explores themes of nightlife, social landscapes, and human behavior in transient spaces. Shaw is particularly noted for his series 'Life as a Night Porter,' which documents his experiences working in London hotels over a ten-year period (1995–2005). His practice involves heavily worked hand-printed archival fibre-based prints, reflecting a belief in the physical connection between materials and the photographer. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Tate Britain and various galleries in Paris, Tokyo, and Moscow.[3,4]
