Christer Strömholm
author · photographer
Christer Strömholm (1918–2002) was a prominent Swedish photographer and educator. Born in Stockholm, he initially studied painting and graphic art before transitioning to photography in the late 1940s. Deeply influenced by the German Fotoform group, Strömholm developed a distinctively intimate and creative style of black-and-white street photography. He is particularly celebrated for his profound, humanistic portrayals of everyday life and his iconic portraits of transgender women in Paris, notably his 'Les Amies de Place Blanche' series. A major figure in 20th-century photography, Strömholm was recognized for his observant and empathetic perspective. He received the prestigious Hasselblad Award in 1997.[1,2,3]
