Christien Jaspars is a Dutch photographer born in 1964. She first visited West Africa in 1982 and spent much of the following decade in Mali studying Bogolanfini, the traditional art of printing fabrics with plants and mud. Her work often explores themes of love, death, and cultural ritual. In 2007, she published 'Do', a book dedicated to her late lover Armando (known as Do), featuring fragile photographs from Mali produced with a pinhole camera.
