Daniel Frasnay
photographer
Daniel Frasnay (1928–2019) was a French photographer and one of the last prominent representatives of the humanist photography generation, alongside figures like Robert Doisneau and Willy Ronis. He began his career as an apprentice at 14 under portraitist Roger Carlet and later worked for Studio Harcourt and the Lipnitski brothers. Frasnay is renowned for documenting Parisian nightlife, particularly the cabarets of Pigalle (such as the Lido and Folies Bergère), where he served as an official photographer for many years. His work captures both the glamour of celebrities—including figures like Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot—and the gritty reality of everyday life in Paris. He was known for his distinctive style that balanced portraiture with street photography, documenting the city's atmosphere from the 1950s through the late 20th century.[1,2]
