Dave Heath

photographer

Dave Heath (1931–2016) was an American documentary and humanist photographer known for his emotionally charged exploration of alienation and solitude in North American society. Born in Philadelphia and abandoned by his parents at a young age, he eventually emigrated to Toronto in 1970. His work is characterized by a poetic sequence of images that capture the restless zeitgeist of the mid-20th century. He was highly influential in the development of fine art photography, particularly for his landmark book 'A Dialogue with Solitude' (originally published in 1965), which explored feelings of isolation within the post-war American landscape.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]
