David Hamilton
author · photographer
David Hamilton (1933–2016) was a British photographer and film director renowned for his soft-focus photography of young women and girls. His work often explored themes of innocence, eroticism, and nostalgia, frequently drawing inspiration from the countryside of Dorset during World War II. After working as a graphic designer in Paris and an art director for magazines like Elle and Queen, Hamilton achieved significant commercial success with numerous photobooks and films. While his aesthetic was celebrated by some as 'dreamy' and 'painterly,' it also sparked enduring debates regarding its artistic merit versus its portrayal of nudity. He lived much of his later life in Paris and Saint-Tropez. In 2016, he faced serious allegations of sexual assault before being found dead in his Paris apartment.[4]
