She was educated at Hunter College (B.F.A., 1956) and New York University's Institute of Fine Arts (M.A., 1965). Her career includes significant roles at the Guggenheim Museum, where she served as an assistant curator from 1967 to 1969 and later as a senior curator until 1996. Waldman is recognized for her extensive research on several prominent artists, most notably Joseph Cornell, whose work she studied deeply during her graduate years.
