Dirk Braeckman

Dirk Braeckman is a Belgian photographer, painter, and artist born in 1958 in Eeklo, Belgium. He lives and works in Ghent. Braeckman studied photography and film at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent from 1977 to 1981. His artistic practice is characterized by a focus on atmospheric, enigmatic, and experimental imagery, often utilizing darkroom-altered techniques to transform everyday objects, empty interiors, and mundane subjects into evocative, painterly compositions. His work explores the boundaries between photography, painting, and sculpture. Braeckman has represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale in 2017 and has received multiple cultural awards, including the Cultural Prize of the Flemish Community in 2005. His publications include the significant z.Z(t) series and the work Chiaroscuro.[1,2,3]
