Durkje van der Wal is a Dutch photohistorical researcher and curator. She has worked extensively with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam on special research projects concerning the history of photography and colonial archives. Her work often focuses on the intersection of visual culture, press photo archives, and historical narratives. She authored 'Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje: The First Western Photographer in Mecca, 1884-1885' (2011) as part of the Rijksmuseum Studies in Photography series.[2,3,4]
