Édouard Baldus

Édouard Baldus (1813–1889) was a French landscape, architectural, and railway photographer. Originally trained as a painter, draughtsman, and lithographer, he switched to photography in 1849. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of early French photography, particularly noted for his aesthetic sensitivity and technical prowess in representing architecture and modern landscapes. His work often captured the grandeur of monuments and infrastructure, such as railroads, during the Second Empire. He was widely acclaimed in his day as a leading architectural photographer.[5]
