Edward Steichen (1879–1973) was an influential American photographer, painter, and exhibition designer who significantly shaped the development of modern photography. Born in Luxembourg, Steichen emigrated to the United States as a child and became a pioneer in various photographic styles, including pictorialism, fashion, and commercial photography. He was a founding member of the Photo-Secession movement and was instrumental in elevating photography to the status of fine art.
