Elliott McDowell
photographer
Elliott McDowell is an American photographer known for his work in traditional photography techniques and silver prints. He began his interest in photography as a child with a Kodak Brownie and later pursued formal education at Southern Methodist University (BBA, 1970). His artistic development was significantly influenced by studying under Ansel Adams at the Yosemite workshops from 1972 to 1975 and through independent study with Laura Gilpin in Santa Fe. McDowell's work often explores landscapes, portraits, interiors, and quirky subjects, characterized by a sense of fantasy and humor. He transitioned to digital photography in the early 1990s but remains recognized for his classic black and white works. His photographs are held in numerous prestigious collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New Mexico Museum of Art.[1,2]
