Elsbeth Etty

Elsbeth Etty (born 1951) is a Dutch literary critic, biographer, journalist, and academic. She studied Dutch language and literature at the University of Amsterdam and was active in the student movement as a member of the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN). From 1973 to 1982, she worked for the communist newspaper De Waarheid before becoming a literary critic and columnist for NRC Handelsblad from 1989 until her retirement in 2017. She is well-known for her biographies of prominent Dutch writers, notably Henriëtte Roland Holst, for which she received several prestigious awards including the Gouden Uil and the Busken Huetprijs. She also served as a professor of literary criticism at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 2004 to 2015.[2,3]
