Kors van Bennekom - Amsterdam, van restauratie naar revolte, 1956-1966

This book features approximately 140 photographs taken by Kors van Bennekom between 1956 and 1966. Van Bennekom began his career as a photographer for the communist newspaper De Waarheid, where he worked until 1965. His work captures a documentary-style view of ordinary, hardworking people in Amsterdam during a period of significant change. The photographs illustrate various aspects of city life, including folk dancing, strikes, evictions, and meetings of the CPN, as well as boxing at Krasnapolsky and scenes from the shipyards. The collection also documents evolving fashions, the growth of the port, and the development of Amsterdam-Noord. Elsbeth Etty, who served as deputy editor-in-chief of De Waarheid, provided the text for this publication.
