Ernst A. Heiniger

Ernst A. Heiniger (1909–1993) was a pioneering Swiss photographer and filmmaker who belonged to the avant-garde of 'Neue Fotografie' in the 1930s. Originally trained as a retouching artist, he became one of the first photographers admitted to the Schweizerischer Werkbund in 1933. He is noted for his innovative fusion of photography and graphic design, collaborating with prominent figures like Herbert Matter and Josef Müller-Brockmann. Heiniger was an early pioneer of photo books in Switzerland, publishing 'Puszta-Pferde' in 1936. In the 1950s, he worked as a documentary filmmaker for Walt Disney, producing several short films that won Academy Awards (Oscars). He also produced pioneering 360-degree films and lived in Los Angeles from 1986 until his death.[1]
