Esko Männikkö

Esko Männikkö is a prominent Finnish photographer and artist born in 1959 in Pudasjärvi, Finland. He lives and works in Oulu. Männikkö is well-known for his large-scale documentary photography that explores rural Finnish identity, isolated lifestyles, and the impact of globalization. His work often features repetitive rural iconography and portraits of people, animals, and objects in northern landscapes. He gained significant international recognition in the 1990s and was awarded the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2008 for his retrospective 'Cocktails 1990–2007'. His work is held in major institutional collections, including the Fondation Cartier in Paris and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.[1,2,3]
