Eva Gerlach

Eva Gerlach (born April 9, 1948, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a prominent Dutch poet and translator who also writes under the pseudonym Margaret Dijkstra. She lived in Paramaribo, Suriname from 1953 to 1966 before settling in the Netherlands. Gerlach debuted in 1977 and published her first collection, 'Verder geen leed,' in 1979, which won both the Lucy B. and C.W. van der Hoogtprijs and the J.B. Charlesprijs. Her poetry is characterized by a classical stature, focusing on themes of personal life, the passage of time, and the persistent memory of the dead.
