Gabriele Basilico

Gabriele Basilico (1944–2013) was a prominent Italian photographer renowned for his evocative, atmospheric documentation of urban and industrial landscapes. After graduating from the Politecnico di Milano in architecture in 1973, he dedicated his life to exploring the morphology of cities, the transformation of the landscape, and the intersection of human presence with architectural decay. His work is characterized by a rigorous documentary style, often capturing the quiet solitude of industrial sites, city squares, and rural landscapes. Basilico is widely considered one of the masters of contemporary photography, with a body of work that explores the layering of history and the identity of modern metropolises. He received numerous international awards, including the Prix Mois de la Photo in 1990 and the 'Osella d'oro' for photography at the Venice Biennale in 1996.[1]
