Geert van Kesteren

Geert van Kesteren is a Dutch photographer and filmmaker born in 1966. He began his career as a photojournalist for international magazines including Der Stern and Newsweek, covering crises in over 50 countries. From 2005 to 2008, he was represented by Magnum Photos. His work is noted for its cinematic storytelling and innovative reporting methods. He has produced significant documentary projects such as 'The Believers' (2018) and groundbreaking photo books like 'Why Mister, Why?' (2004) and 'Baghdad Calling' (2008), which are considered highly relevant accounts of the Iraq war. Currently based in Yafo Tel-Aviv, he works as a cinematographer for independent documentary filmmakers and public news broadcasters like the NOS. He is also an academic lecturer exploring themes of conflict, migration, and the relationship between photography and film.[1,2]
