George Platt Lynes
author · photographer
George Platt Lynes (1907–1955) was an American fashion and commercial photographer who worked primarily in the 1930s and 1940s. He gained recognition for his work with major publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country, and Vogue, notably producing a cover featuring Lisa Fonssagrives. Lynes also documented principal dancers of the American Ballet Company (now New York City Ballet). Beyond commercial success, he maintained a significant private collection of nude and homoerotic photography, much of which was acquired by the Kinsey Institute before his death. His work is noted for its intimate portraits of artists, writers, and socialites of the mid-20th century.[1,2]
