Gotthard Jedlicka

Gotthard Jedlicka (1899–1965) was a prominent Swiss art historian and writer. He served as a long-time professor of art history at the University of Zurich, where he held the chair from 1934 until his death. Jedlicka is widely recognized for his scholarly monographs on modern French art, particularly his work on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Manet, and Pieter Bruegel. He was known for his 'Taghefte' (pocket notebooks), in which he recorded personal impressions of encounters with famous artists like Alberto Giacometti. His scholarship combined rigorous academic analysis with a deep personal engagement with the artistic experience.[1,2]
