Gregor Krause

author · photographer

Gregor Krause was a German physician who served in the Dutch East Indies during the early 20th century. While he dedicated his professional medical skills to the region, he is primarily recognized for his extensive work as a photographer. Between 1920 and 1925, he spent significant time in Balikpapan, a territory of Dutch Borneo (now Indonesia), where he captured high-quality field photographs of the local flora, fauna, and indigenous people. His most notable photographic works include documentation of Dayak headmen, orangutan families, and nose-monkeys. His 1927 publication 'Borneo I, II, III' is a significant folio set featuring photogravures from his time in Balikpapan.[1,2,3]
