Hans Belting (1935–2023) was a prominent German art historian and media theorist specializing in image science, contemporary art, and the Italian art of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. He held prestigious professorships at the Universities of Heidelberg, Munich, and Karlsruhe. Belting is noted for his work on 'Bild-Anthropologie' (Image Anthropology) and his research into the reception of images in religious contexts. He was a member of several scientific academies and received numerous honors, including the Balzan Prize in 2015.[1,2]
