Hans de Bruijn

photographer

Hans de Bruijn is a Dutch visual artist and photographer born in Leiden in 1959. He studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam (1986-1988) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (1981-1986), where he graduated cum laude in painting, drawing, and etching in 1986. While primarily recognized as a painter whose work is rooted in the expressive tradition of 'sculpting' thick paint with brushes and palette knives, de Bruijn has also established a significant career in photography. His photographic work often focuses on portraits of contemporary artists in their studios, notably captured in his book 'Atelier. Vijftig kunstenaarsportretten'. His works are held in various collections including Museum LAM (Lisse), Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal (Leiden), and the Rümcke Stichting (Utrecht).[1,2,3]
