Henri Alfred (Henk) Linnewiel
author · photographer
Henk Linnewiel (1930–2012) was a Dutch photographer and veterinarian who is primarily recognized for his evocative black-and-white photography. Born in Arnhem, Linnewiel began his photographic journey in 1938 and spent 25 years practicing veterinary medicine in Midwolda, East Groningen. During his time there, he became a prolific amateur photographer, capturing the nuances of rural life in the Oost-Groningen region. He was an active member of the Gronings Foto Kollektief. Linnewiel's work is characterized by its focus on the beauty of everyday scenes and 'the back side of things'—details often overlooked by the casual observer. His three published photo books include 'Op diergeneeskundig gebied' (1992), 'Het Oldambt 1964-1997' (1998), and 'Amsterdam terloops' (1999), the latter of which captures the atmosphere of the Amsterdam city center.[1,2,3]
