Henry de Montherlant

Henry de Montherlant (1895–1972) was a prominent French novelist, playwright, essayist, and poet. Born into an aristocratic family of Catalan origin in Paris, he was educated at the Lycée Janson de Sailly and the Sainte-Croix boarding school. His works are characterized by their stylistic conciseness and exploration of themes such as masculine rigor, sensual pursuits, and the decline of traditional virtues. He was elected to the Académie française in 1960 without formal candidacy and received honors including the Croix de guerre for his service during World War I.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12]
