Herbert List
photographer
Herbert List (1903–1975) was a German photographer known for his austere, classically-posed black-and-white compositions. His work often explored themes of humanism and the 'magical in passing,' influenced by Surrealism and the concept of 'Fotografia Metafisica.' He spent significant time traveling through Greece, Italy, and other regions, capturing scenes that blended everyday life with a sense of timeless mystery. After 1945, he settled in Munich, where he became an active photographer before transitioning to a collector of Renaissance drawings after 1960. His photography has been highly influential for modern fashion and artistic photography due to its formal elegance.[1,2]
