Ikko Narahara

Ikko Narahara (1931–2020) was a prominent Japanese photographer and artist known for his evocative visual records of landscapes, architecture, and cultural traditions. He received his M.F.A. from Waseda University Graduate School of Art and Design in 1959. In the same year, he co-founded the influential photographers' agency 'VIVO' with Shomei Higashimatsu and Eikoh Hosoe, which played a significant role in contemporary Japanese photography. Narahara spent much of his career traveling internationally, capturing scenes in Europe, the United States, and Spain. His work is characterized by a stark, atmospheric aesthetic that explores the relationship between human presence and the environment. He held numerous solo exhibitions globally and was recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Order of the Rising Sun.[1,2]
