Jean Gaumy

Jean Gaumy is a French photographer, filmmaker, and painter, renowned for his evocative imagery and deep engagement with his subjects. A member of the Magnum Photos agency since 1977, he has produced significant works on the lives of fishermen, the penal system, and the health services in France. He is particularly known for his long-term documentation of the sea and Arctic landscapes, as well as his exploration of human confinement in prisons and hospitals. Gaumy has also worked on location for several films, including underwater shoots on nuclear attack submarines. He is a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and has been appointed 'Peintre Officiel de la Marine'. He currently resides in Fécamp, Haute-Normandie.[1,2,3]
