Jean Ruiter
photographer
Jean Ruiter (1942–2005) was a Dutch photographer and visual artist known for his monumental photoworks that bridge art history with contemporary reality. In the 1970s, he worked as a renowned landscape photographer for publications like Avenue. Since 1988, he focused exclusively on personal projects, often creating large-scale installations or 'photoworks' involving physical constructions and multimedia elements such as sound and video. He is particularly noted for his series 'Cathedrals in the Desert,' where he constructed cultural icons from waste materials in the American desert to comment on the divide between the Old and New Worlds.[1,2,3,4,5]
