Jens Olof Lasthein

Jens Olof Lasthein is a Swedish freelance photographer and author known for his visual documentation of borderlands and conflict zones. Born in Sweden in 1964 and raised in Denmark, he studied photography at Nordens Fotoskola in Stockholm (1989–1992). His body of work focuses significantly on scenes from the former Yugoslavia, including life before, during, and after the wars of the 1990s. His acclaimed projects include 'Moments in Between' (2000) and 'White Sea, Black Sea' (2001–2007), the latter documenting a journey along the eastern border of the European Union. Lasthein is noted for his use of panoramic photography (140° wide angle), which he adopted in 1991 to capture complex, multi-story theatrical scenes and expressive cultural environments.[1,2,3]
