John Paskievich is a Canadian freelance photographer and filmmaker who immigrated to Montreal from Austria in 1953. After studying sociology and anthropology at the University of Winnipeg, he discovered a passion for photography during a trip to Europe. He later studied photographic arts at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. Paskievich's work often explores themes of identity, immigration, and cultural heritage, particularly focusing on European immigrants and First Nations people in Canada. His notable works include 'A Place Not Our Own,' which explored the North End of Winnipeg, and his extensive documentation of Eastern Bloc life in 'A Voiceless Song: Photographs of the Slavic Lands.'
