Joop van den Broek

Johannes Frederik (Joop) van den Broek was a Dutch journalist and writer known for his crime novels and thrillers. He worked as a correspondent in Indonesia, Madrid, and Paramaribo, locations that frequently appeared in his literary works. Van den Broek began his career as a journalist for 'De Stem' and later served as a correspondent for 'de Volkskrant', 'De Telegraaf', and the AVRO. In 1953, he received an award from publisher Bruna for his crime novel 'Parels voor Nadra', which is often cited as one of the first Dutch hard-boiled thrillers. He wrote under various pseudonyms, including Jan van Gent and G. Buitendijk.[1]
