Josyah Willem de Gruyter (1899–1979), also known as W. Jos. de Gruyter, was a Dutch art critic and museum director. He spent his early life in Singapore and the Dutch East Indies before moving to England for artistic training at the Royal College of Art. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he became a prominent art critic for publications like Elsevier's Geïllustreerd Maandschrift. He served as the director of the Groninger Museum (1955–1963) and later as head curator of Modern Art at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.^[1,2]
