Juliana Beasley is an American photographer born in Philadelphia in 1967. She graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1990 and began her career as a freelance photographer covering New York City nightlife for The Village Voice. Her most notable work, 'Lapdancer' (2003), resulted from an eight-year project where she worked as a professional nude dancer to gain insider access to the world of strip clubs. Her photography is characterized by its gritty, honest depiction of underground culture and has been included in permanent collections at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Le Musee de la Photographie in Charleroi, Belgium.[1]
