Julio Etchart

Julio Etchart is a renowned documentary photographer and visual journalist born in Uruguay. He moved to the United Kingdom in the 1970s, where he studied documentary photography at Newport Art College in Wales and video production at the Theatre Workshop in Edinburgh. Etchart has spent decades traveling the world to document environmental, migration, cultural, and social issues for international media outlets, non-profit organizations, and international bodies such as the United Nations, UNICEF, OXFAM, and Save the Children. His work is characterized by a focus on storytelling over 'exotic' imagery. He has received significant acclaim, including a World Press Photo First Prize in the Environment category.
