Larry Clark
author · photographer
Larry Clark is an American photographer and filmmaker known for his raw and unfiltered depictions of youth culture. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he worked in his family's commercial portrait business before studying photography at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee from 1961 to 1963. After serving in the military during the Vietnam War, he became a freelance photographer based in New York City in 1966. His early work documented drug use and illicit activity in Tulsa, leading to his first publication, 'Tulsa' (1971). He gained notoriety for 'Teenage Lust' (1983), which depicted adolescent sexuality with graphic intensity. Clark also directed the films 'Kids' (1994) and 'Another Day in Paradise' (1999). His photography is characterized by a voyeuristic, first-hand intensity that captures difficult social circumstances.[1,2]
