Lee To Sang

Lee To Sang (Hong Kong 1938–Amsterdam 2024) was a photographer who moved to Paramaribo in 1964, where he opened his first photo studio. In 1979, he relocated with his family to Amsterdam and established his second studio, 'To Sang Fotostudio,' on the Albert Cuypstraat. His clientele included local residents as well as many immigrants from Suriname, Pakistan, China, Morocco, Turkey, and Kurdistan. He is noted for photographing various notable figures, including mayors of Amsterdam and artist Martin Parr. Lee To Sang became widely recognized through his book 'To Sang fotostudio' (published by Basalt in 1995) and a documentary film by Johan van der Keuken released in 1997. He retired from his studio practice in 2003.[1]
