Machiel Botman
photographer
Machiel Botman is a prominent Dutch photographer known for his distinctive black-and-white visual diary of self-exploration. Born in Vogelenzang in 1955, he began photographing as an amateur at the age of 12 and turned professional in 1976. His work is characterized by an instinctive, non-conventional approach that welcomes mistakes and surprises to create a personal photographic language. Botman has worked extensively in Paris as an assistant to Philippe Salaün and has exhibited his work internationally in countries including France, Japan, the United States, and Australia. He is recognized for creating images that serve as fragments of reality, often exploring themes of beauty and menace through a highly personal lens.[1,2,3,4,5]
