Manthia Diawara (born December 19, 1953) is a Malian writer, filmmaker, cultural theorist, scholar, and art historian. He serves as a Distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature and Film at New York University, where he also heads the Institute of African American Affairs. Diawara was born in Bamako and received his early education in France before migrating to the United States. His work explores African aesthetics, cinema, and politics.[1,2,5,6]
