Marina Abramović
author · photographer
Marina Abramović is a Serbian conceptual and performance artist known for testing the physical and mental limits of her body. A pioneer in performance art, she often uses her own body as both subject and medium to explore endurance, pain, and spiritual transformation. She began her career in Belgrade in the early 1970s and moved to Amsterdam in 1975, where she collaborated extensively with German artist Ulay from 1976 to 1988. Her work often involves ritualistic actions and direct interaction with the audience. Notable works include 'Rhythm 0' (1974) and her long-duration performance 'The Artist Is Present' (2010). She founded the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) to support durational performance art globally.[1,2,3]
