Mark Morrisroe (1959–1989) was an American performance artist and photographer who became a seminal figure in the Boston punk scene of the 1970s and the New York art world boom of the mid-to-late 1980s. A key member of 'The Boston School,' Morrisroe's work is characterized by its individual aesthetic, capturing his circle of friends through painterly portraits and intimate nude photographs. His practice often explored themes of survival, sexual longing, and loneliness, frequently utilizing Polaroid cameras to reflect the decay of the body during the AIDS crisis. In his final years, he transitioned into extensive darkroom experiments, creating photomontages using porn magazine pages and X-ray images of himself as negatives.[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10]
