Markéta Luskačová

Markéta Luskačová is a Czech photographer born in Prague in 1944. She studied Sociology of Culture at Charles University and later took a postgraduate course in photography at the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU). She began working as a freelance photographer in 1968, gaining early international acclaim for her 'Pilgrims' series (1964–71), which documented religious traditions in Slovakia. In 1975, she immigrated to London, England, where she has lived and worked since. Her photography often focuses on the human condition, including street life in East End markets, children, and coastal scenes. She was a nominee photographer for Magnum Photo between 1976 and 1980. Her work is held in major public collections including the Tate, Victoria and Albert Museum, and National Portrait Gallery.[1,2]
