Marrie Bot is a prominent Dutch photographer and graphic designer born in Bergambacht in 1946. She is highly regarded for her evocative and intimate photographic practice, which often centers on subjects that are marginalized or overlooked by mainstream society. Her work frequently explores themes of human vulnerability, religious devotion, and social exclusion. Two of her most significant publications include 'Miserere: de grote boetebedevaarten in Europa' (1984), which captures the atmosphere of large-scale religious pilgrimages, and 'Bezwaard bestaan' (1988), which provides an intimate look at the lives of individuals with mental disabilities through a combination of photography and personal narratives. Her artistic contributions have been widely recognized; she received the Maria Austriaprijs in 1989 specifically for 'Bezwaard bestaan' and was awarded the prestigious Dr. A.H.
