Martin Roemers

photographer

Martin Roemers is a Dutch documentary photographer known for his long-term projects documenting the physical and structural remnants of history. Between 1998 and 2009, he conducted 'photographic archeological research' on the traces of the Cold War across Europe, traveling to countries including Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Great Britain, Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. His work focuses on abandoned underground tunnels, military training areas, rotting tanks, and destroyed monuments, seeking a sense of stillness in derelict infrastructure overtaken by nature. He studied at the AKI Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede, Netherlands.[1,2,3]
