Matthew S. Witkovsky is a curator, scholar, and writer specializing in photography and visual culture. He currently serves as the Richard and Ellen Sandor Chair and Curator of Photography and Media at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he also holds the position of vice president for strategic art initiatives. Witkovsky began his curatorial career at the National Gallery of Art, where he served as an associate curator of photography. His work focuses on the historical and political dimensions of photography, including the interplay between material conditions, technology, and human expression. He has curated numerous significant exhibitions and authored research on topics such as conceptual art, abstract photography, and the visual culture of the Soviet era. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.^[1]
