b. White Plains, New York, USA[1]

Mauro Marinelli is an American photographer, born and raised in White Plains, New York, to Italian immigrant parents. He earned a BFA in photography and English from Manhattanville College in 1977, and he lists Ralph Gibson, Eva Rubenstein and Sean Kernan among his influences. In the late 1970s he travelled across the United States photographing the last original Italian immigrants. St. Martin's Press published the resulting book, Old Timers: The Italians, in 1979. The same year he illustrated Ellen Rabinowich's Rock Fever (Triumph Books, Franklin Watts). He later worked as a photojournalist before moving to upstate New York, where he farmed culinary herbs and ran a contracting business. His later books include The Burden of Wings (Kehrer Verlag, 2014), a collection of Polaroid cemetery images, and Under Old Stars: Wanderings in Italian Hill Towns (Kehrer Verlag, 2016), made with writer Rob Lloyd. The sources consulted do not publish his birth year or any death information.[1]
